I had a buddy that had a Browning A5 or Auto5 and he had to change out some gas rings to make it shoot light loads.

Man got an 1187 special purpose for Christmas and just as I expected it doesn't really care for light load 2 3/4" shells.

Is there anything I can adjust to make it cycle them?

Just curious.

it should cycle the light loads just fine Ruger, no break in is necessary.

check the following

remove cap on forend
remove forend wood
open chamber and remove barrel

check the two metal gas rings and make sure you start out with the little slots/split in them 180 degrees apart

mine shoots very light loads all the time

if this is not clear give me a call 1-731-780-4320

Thanks again Ray.
Gonna swing by final flight today and see if they have any rings and if they will do anything about the issue.

I just bought one last year that seemed to have the same problem even after installing the extra pressure ring. I took it all back apart and cleaned it..then oiled it well with remoil...as per a remington guy on their website.Never missed a beat since.Even shoots the super light low brass stuff.

Never had a problem with mine cycling rounds. As mentioned above, disassemble, clean good, lube and reassemble. Should do the trick.

PS: I am amazed at how dirty a new gun out of the box actually is.

I have an older 11-87 SP, only 2.75 and 3.0. It will shoot & eject 9's and max loads 3 inch steel. There is a slight difference in felt recoil.
