Got around to sighting my gun in this evening. 870 youth 20 with a Carlson's .575 choke. Federal tss 9 shot. Looking at other targets I'm kinda stumped. But I have little to no experience with it. I ended up with 187 in a 10" circle at 40 yards. Pictured with circles is my worst target with the 187.

Not sure how good you can see it but this target turned out much better. 2nd pattern I shot but didn't count it

With no experience here what would change, if anything.

The Federal TSS loads like a tighter choke than the Apex or handloads do due to the Flex wad. Get either the Carlson's .555 or the Indian Creek .555 for that load and thank me later.

So you shot twice, not changing anything, and second shot appears to be better? 187 inside 10" is fine for hunting out to 50 yards, with a lot of insurance, what are you wanting? I'd prefer 225-250 inside 10" at 40 yards, but 187 will kill every time.

^^^ Good hunting pattern. I missed the part about Federal shells, no experience with them and their wad.

If you setup a gun/choke for a particular shell, buy as many of those shells as you can for out years. I can promise you components will change over time, and likely change how they shoot/pattern. My .02

Excellent advice.
And even better if they have the same Lot # on the inside of the box flap!

I bought 4 boxes when I ordered the shells. I shot 3 shells this evening trying to get my scope lined up. Looking at others' patterns with a 20 I'm a bit behind. But as I stated, I have no experience with this. Wouldn't mind tightening it up a bit but if my daughter happens to go and shoot I stick with what I currently have.
