have any of you done this before, I am looking at buying a "Shiloh Sharps 40-65" and the main decision that I am up against is the reloading of shells.

I have never loaded rifle cartridges before. I have read articles until my eyes have crossed, I have reloaded shotgun shells for 40 plus years and I know that rifle cartridges are an entirely different ballgame

thanks for your input into this topic

Never have loaded black powder rounds.

You might want to check out Rifle or Handloader Magazines Mike V. has done a few aricles in both on such and has a book on the subject.

I am wanting to do some long range shooting, 500 plus yards, from everything that I have read it will take a little while to work up a good load, I have found many starter loads

the main deal is deciding if I want to mess with the project.

I have none of the reloading equip, heck, I have not bought the rifle yet

my Bro loads his 45-70 with a stiff charge of H335 and a heavy bullet he casts and it is scarry accurate, and is very close to 458 Win Mag velocitys..

they make a powder that is very fluffy and light compared to its volume,,5744 or something,,it is designed to fill the 45-70 case and deliver normal factory load speeds at very low pressure,,it is so light it comes in half pound cans,,

buy the gun and you can load smokeless powder that exactly duplicates the blackpowder load or you can hotrod the heck out of it,,the possibilitys are endless,,
