How many keep records of your property? What info do you keep track of? I am not very good at it but want to start keeping records of info that may be very useful in later years. Any suggestions?

Rich,
I keep records of what I plant, when I planted and the results of growth. If the deer like it or not and any sugjestions that I give myself for the next planting season and what I would change and not change. I also keep small notes on where I see deer approach my food soures and what time of year I saw them and when the food sourse was not used and what was in the food soures. My records look like a bunch of jibberish and very sloppy notes but it works for me. You know... if you put that much time on your property and I guess I don't want to make mistakes two times in a row and I want to capitalize on what works the best.

Digital maps/GIS of habitat
Annual stand locations
Food plot work (planting species and seeding rates, fertilization and lime, performance, etc.)
Observation data
Harvest data
Weather data linked to observation data

I do the same as BSK but havent recorded the weather data. Im sure I dont go as indepth as him but I record quite a bit on excel spreadsheets. Hours spent per stand and what was seen in those hours is a biggie for me.

Forgot to mention, I keep up with all my Before, During, and After season census data also. I only have 2 years worth right now but over time Ill be to tell just how much an improvement my habitat work has made as far as attracting deer to the area.

My first season I flew by the seat of my pants. This next year I will start off with a rub census in February(for me equals bonehead walking through the woods getting excited over rubs). Then I will get a soil test done and keep logs of every thing I do. I guess I will learn as I go.

RMBBQ our first went quickly too and it was a learning process...I have documented with pictures a lot of what we have done, and started to understand deer movement on our property.

One thing I am doing is using a Google Docs account (their free) so that my brother and I can upload files and check them from any computer...kind of a neat program.

Don't even get me started on the camera data I collect/keep. And I've got 10 years worth of census data plus odds-and-ends camera data for 8 years previous to that.
