And right when archery opens.

My Father-in-Law decided that the people he has been leasing his 300 acre property to have had it long enough. Today it goes to the family. Already deciding where to park my camper and hang some stands. My brother-in-law, wife and I are stoked!

Great for you but stinks for them.

I was on the other end of it than you are at one time. My dad's neighbor let us hunt for yrs until his SIL finally talked him into giving the rights all to him. It was fun while it lasted and had many great memories on the farm. I realized then that if i didn't own it that it could happen so easily. Was able to purchase some land last yr so i wouldn't have to worry about it.

Congrats to you. Hope y'all have a great season!

This property was leased to them for over 20 years. I lost my Giles Co. Lease in 2007 when the owner decided he wanted to "Go in a different direction". It hurts to lose a great hunting property, I know. I have great memories of the 7 years I hunted there and now my family and I will make new memories here and perhaps even build a home. This weekend I'm going to start replacing gates and fencing.

I went to the property today. I drove to the lake, then the swamp and levee and finally to the hardwood flats that my wife will inherit. Everywhere I looked it was just me. hundreds of acres and just me. I smelled the distant fireplaces. I could not grasp the solitude and the overwhelming feeling of how large a few hundred acres really is when you are alone. Everywhere I walked I jumped up does. I saw turkey and coyotes. These large tracts of land are fast disappearing as people divide it amongst their children.
Once, me and three friends went to LBL on a bow hunt. We were alone and saw a brilliant yellow glow in the woods. It looked like a campfire. It was nothing more than a full moon rising. It is as much about camaraderie as it is about hunting. The memories and experiences we share.

That's awesome I am happy for you. I was in heaven this past week hunting my own property and it is a third of the size of yours. Depending on the surrounding land, 300 acres is a ton of land! Mine is surrounded by private property owners and I am not sure if many of them hunt at all. I didn't see anyone for days, it was absolutely fantastic.
