The days are few and far between when you can get a 6.5 year old to slip up and move in daylight, but this one just had to go against the grain. He's survived enough seasons that I figured he was worth sharing. Enjoy.

Something must have been in the air on the 29th.
I got this one 20 yds from my stand at 7:19 am

From the Southeast, I can count on one hand the number of pictures I have of 6 1/2+ year-old bucks moving during daylight during hunting season. A real rarity for sure.

Is that the only pic you have?
I have a few others during this "sequence", but that is it so far this year. I have a friend who has pics of him the last two years, all within a 100 acre block of woods. He saw him one time last year in daylight, and the buck either got by him or he let him walk, I cannot remember for sure.

Are you targeting that deer, Andy?
Not so much, would rather see my buddy get him. On the other hand, I will be hunting some in this area and if I see him and am certain of it, I will do my best to kill him. I would love to see his teeth since we have a good amount of history and several years of photos of him. I figure I have the same odds of winning the Powerball as seeing him in daylight again. :) On a side note, I let a mature 7 point walk up to 8 yards of me few weeks back (before he found me in the tree at 25') while bow hunting and was "targeting" that buck with this camera setup. I have not picked up the 7 point yet, but got this buck, which is definitely bigger bodied overall, but not by a lot.

I bet he would field dress over 200 lbs.
I think so too. I killed one years ago that dressed 187 pounds and this deer appears to be a fair amount bigger when comparing trail cam photos side by side.

It would be the first 6.5 yo buck killed at Ames. I hope you guys get him but fair warning. He won't be passed by too many including me if I see him but it would be easier to get drawn on the Tn elk hunt. Good luck on a beautiful buck.
