I have a black powder revolver with a .45 Colt conversion cylinder. I'm wanting to hunt with it. My question is, will a 250 grain lead flat nose do the job?
Yes, look at all the old blackpowder cartridges and muzzle loaders with round balls that have been used to kill deer in the past. If you can shoot well enough to connect, it will punch a hole in a deer. I have a load I use in my 45 Colt revolvers that gets about 850 fps with a 255 gr flat point cast from a LEE mold using wheel weights. I would trust it to kill a deer. Now do I trust myself to HIT the deer with the revolver at this moment?? No. I've not practiced nearly enough in a long time.
