I'm on a 400 acre lease with 5 others including my dad and we got 2 nice bucks on camera Sunday that are shooters to me already but I think with one more ur they could be really nice deer. These members are new and haven't met them yet but if they don't really believe in letting them walk how could I go about this?

I'm more of a meat hunter anyway but always like a nice rack to me it's an added bonus, any suggestions

Ask them their strategy. If you're not on the same page then you can continue in your endeavor but you're going to be disappointed.

Are the bucks you say are shooters by age or by trophy ? To me in my area a shooter is a 3.5 year old regardless of his rack. If you are going by age QDMA page on how to age deer on the hoof. I would ask all Member to get familiar with this page

So if I am reading this right. You are wanting your members to be influenced by your needs wants and desires to wait another season in hopes that this deer makes it another season so it can be be harvested?

Do the other members pay the same fees as you do? Are they entitled to think the same as you do about which deer they get to kill?

Just curious.

Yes they pay the same as I pay I was asking how could go about asking if everyone would follow qdma I'm not trying to tell anyone what the can and cannot shot if it makes you happy it makes you happy just wanted advise as to properly talk to them

If you don't have it written into the lease than I do not think you have anyway to impose your wants on the way they hunt this year. I would try and establish lease rules with whomever pays to join(but have those rules available before you take the money). Good chance that those bucks may not be around later in the season as they shift their range. It is worth having the conversation with them, but I wouldn't expect to earn their buy in.

Sorry if I came of being snarky. It just appeared that you were wanting to dictate to the others a policy and not just discuss.

Poser hits the nail on the head why this QDMA is a bunch of non sense for the great majority. 400 acres and 5 people you simply cannot manage it for QDMA.

No problem but I agree I didn't think about that point

Couple good points in this thread...
1. If you want to adhere to QDMA standards on a paid lease it needs to be on the table prior to signing up and paying money
2. 5 guys on 400 acres is not going to amount to a SIGNIFICANT difference in the quality of deer encountered unless there are large tracts of land around you practicing to the same standard

In my opinion; The more folks out there passing younger deer the better right? Just because I let a young buck pass doesn't mean he's going to get killed. You won't see your maximum potential but if 2 out of the 5 guys on the lease are passing young deer then there's more of a chance for those deer to mature. I hunt with 2 other guys on 125 acres. They will kill anythung. That doesn't change my way of thinking though and that doesn't mean they will kill every deer out there either.
