I've never been, but always wanted to go. Any suggestions which area to take a look at?

I hope you dont take offense, and I've never hunted KY, but I dont expect anyone to respond to this post on a public forum.

Maybe approach it as... 'ive done some scouting on blah, blah, blah WMAs, and I'd love someone to send me a PM if what I'm thinking is correct' would be a better way to phrase your query.

I wish I could say that lol...but I've only hunted KY a few times with a buddy on his private lease. And he moved about 5 years ago, and away went the lease. I was just being honest...but I get it for sure. Oh well, I'll do some looking around.

Lots of good public land in KY. There is a whole section in the hunting/trapping guide about public land opportunities, this info is also in the KDFWR website. Which part of the state are you looking at??

I live near Lebanon, TN. So somewhere not too far away, that I can make a day trip. Like up around Scottsville or Horse Cave maybe.

1) apply for quota hunts. The fee is only $3 and you don't need a license. Deadline was yesterday and I think my whole family just got priority points this year.
2) want a good opportunity for an above average deer? Take advantage of the youth only hunt weekend in October. Adults don't need a license and neither does the youth 11 and under....it is free.
3) take advantage of the youth only hunts on wma's that either do not offer any gun hunting or a quota only

I just used Marriott rewards to book 3 days on the beach at a new hotel in Panama City so we are skipping the youth opportunity. The dang hot weather and long range forecast has me wanting to hit the beach and then cool, off in late October and November.

I literally have too many places to hunt this year! I drew 2 quota hunts in TN and another good one in GA. 2 Kids drew Yuchi in TN and then another in GA.

Look for WMAs with terrain that you are familiar with. It will cut the learning curve down. For the most part, the wooded areas are wooded for a reason (steep) and the open areas are row crops or wet. I prefer to find a mix of both. Been to several WMAs and have found deer on each one.

Good luck... Hope you find a spot.
