Slow for sure.....passed a 9pt probably 2.5yrold and 4 does bedded 40yrds from me for 3 hrs......and thats it so far

Slow for me as well... Had a 5 ptr come to me and bed at 8:30, grunted up a 4 ptr at 9. Got down at 11 when I ran out of all my food :).

Scouted/ stillhunted the block of woods right behind the TWRA checkin station...less buck sign there than anyplace I've seen, but I did manage to sneak up to within 20 yds of a 7ptr rubbing the heck outta some bushes....saw another 1.5 yo buck and a 2.5 yo buck. Been back on stand for 45 min or so for the eve hunt.

All the guys I've talked to who hunted in years past have been very disappointed. Not sure if it's the heat or last years flood (prob the flood), but they seem to think there's just a fraction of the deer that used to be here :(

How's the buck sign look? I'm curious after all the flooding that went on. When I was there 7 or 8 years back the huge rubs and scrapes were everywhere.

Missed a pretty good one early and then let a real bruiser get by me. Tried sounding like a frog but it didn't work. Saw four does and one smaller buck right around noon. Changed locations for the afternoon. Think I'll try and get 50-feet high and see if that works.

:)

Most of the scrapes (I suppose I've seen 60 to 70) haven't been hit in the past couple days.... Have seen one or two that have doe prints in them from the past day or so. Fair number of rubs, I've seen more per acre o

n several other properties I've hunted

Insane amount of browse even in the woods. More greenbrier and honeysuckle than I've ever seen with no browsing pressure on it whatsoever

Yes, skeeters are terrible. That and the high temps are exactly why I gave up bowhunting when I moved to mississippi. I will give an endorsement for the thermacell, however. Bought my first one ever just for this trip. They were swarming me this morn an hour before daylight. A fow min after I flipped it on, they all left me in peace. There are more owls here than anyplace I've been on... Seen 6 or 7 so far. Maybe they've eaten all the deer ;)

Well i saw another doe this evening.. when I left they said they still haven't had any bucks checked in! That was going on 6pm!

Lost my long-winded last post on the stupid blackberry... A quick synopsis... Saw a few little deer this eve; no deer killed on PI, a few shot and lost; one stud buck killed on ensley ( recurve shooter posteed pics) with 24.5" beams, 185lb field dressed and will prob scare 150".

TWRA has been great! Rumor has it that they will even drag your deer out of the woods for you ;). But seriously, I thank you guys for all the hard work you've done to make this hunt fun!

really your still on this

Slow morn so far, but I expect it to pick up with the line of storms blowing thru. Looks like the isle is gona miss the first round. Unfortunately, wind is now swirling with the line of storms...just had a decent sized buck coming to a grunt call upwind, but then the wind changed and he blew outta here. Never close enough to even tell if it was a shooter or not. I'm getting a bit ripe...last shower was 48h ago :)

jump in the mighty mississippi and clean yourself

I'm about 70 yds away from big muddy right now :). I'd have to walk across 250 yds of mud to reach the river it's so low!

Nothing else this am...heard a 4 wheeler come out about an hour ago...hopefully they got something.

Starting to question my gameplan... Half the hunters are stacked up on the NW corner of the island... I set up about 800yds to the east of them, hoping with all the pressure there it would push the deer eastward to me. I'm in a travel corridor with good bedding thickets all around, as well as a ton of food. Perfect spot for rutting bucks. But just haven't seen the number of deer I was expecting. Gonna move to another spot that has potential for the afternoon in about an hour or so

I Killed a 3.5yr old 9pt this morning on the island....dressed 162lbs

Posting for slim! Congrats
