How much powder do y'all recommend to run in a muzzleloader for a kid? Shots will be 70 yards max. Just don't want to ruin him on 100 grains. Thanks

It really doesn't take much to kill a deer. My biggest concern would be if he could, with confidence, hit the deer in the vitals.

My brother shot a bunch with 50g , they didn't know he wasn't using 100g lol

Think it depends on the age of the kids, their size, and on the gun. I would strongly encourage being sure the gun will perform well with the load you are going to run.

Was using 85 grains loose pyrodex for my oldest daughter with 240 grain xtp mag from TC black diamond when I took her with muzzleloader, she was 8 and may have weighed 70 lbs. Was less recoil than her .243. Normal load I was running on the black diamond was 120. On paper she did great, she never shot a deer with the load though. Youngest daughter, just turned 15, has shot my accura with full load, she always wants to try shooting different guns though.

I started my youngin' off with a single 50 grain pellet, I have lots leftover from switching to BH209 a few years ago. Anyhow as he became more comfortable shooting I switched him to powder and settled on 70 grains in his MZ. He says he didn't notice a difference in the loads.
