Word is this buck was killed in SW Virginia about 20-30 minutes above the TN line in Washington County, VA.

The verdict is still out on whether or not it's going to break the Non-Typical B&C world record after deductions but it's expected to come close. Either way it's a truly incredible animal and crazy to have come from the Appalachian Mountains!

This buck was killed Glade Springs, VA, about 20 mins up I-81 from the VA/TN line. it's been measured using the VA Buck scoring system, which doesn't deduct the same as B&C and measures spread differently. From what I've heard, it will only be about 180-190 B&C at best when it's dried and officially scored. Would be nice to have the new world record be from around these parts, but this buck won't make.

Yea probably won't make it after deductions but 180-190 Net is still just stupid!

Man shoots a potential world record and cuts the rack off like that?

This was probably done by the taxidermist. The skull plate and the rack and sometimes the cape are the only things original on a shoulder mounted deer. The rest is a form. There isn't anything wrong with having rack cut off like that.

IMPOSSIBLE! We cant grow deer like that over here in this poor soil and I bet VA is even worse than here!

When you get a deer mounted , they normally all get cut off like that . Just normally they stay at the taxidermist untill they are finished . With a buck that big , most people keep them untill the taxidermist is ready to make sure nobody steals them .

I'm also suprised it isn't framed up all crazy like with wood . I have seen people frame them up to try and keep them from shrinking during the drying . Lol

Just don't drop it! I kept my 160" rack at home until the taxidermist was ready for and guess what, I dropped it and it slit right down the middle on skull. He said he could fit it back to the original width, but it was 2 inches shorter when I picked it up.

Wow! What a hoss! We used to hunt Lee co. VA and there sure was some big ones around!

Fact: The buck will not net high enough to make it. Been measured and net is well below current record. Heck of a buck but OFFICIALLY NOT a new record.

Nice buck but there's Zero chance that is even close to a World Record. Deer like that are shot in the Midwest every day by the dozens.
I disagree , a 200" deer is rare . Even in the Midwest . It happens more often but not by the dozens . I know what you were saying though .

Yeah I just now saw the other thread.

Incredible deer nonetheless, especially for where it was shot. Congrats to that lucky hunter!

Those mountains have lots of huge deer just like the Midwest imo but it is a lot harder to hunt because of the terrain and vast amounts of timber.

Deer like that are few and far in between this area and MANY others

I am not just talking about 180 to 200 inch deer, I saying there are several very nice bucks. just because you don't see them doesn't mean they aint there.

While I will agree with you guys that there are deer killed this big in the mid-west every year there are not many Typicals that break 200 inches and this one came close. Like Bowriter said, apparently it has been officially deemed not a WR but to say that it isn't even close and that free-range deer this large are killed every year is plum crazy.

Here's a number for you. There are only 15 Typical whitetail deer in the B&C record books in all of history that score over 200 inches after deductions. If this deer breaks 200 or comes close to it then it's absolutely a world class animal and deserves to get a shot at the record.
