I don't normally do the potato thing because most are pretty inexpensive in the store - that's just me. However, I tried some sweet potatoes this year and I swear to you they came out looking more like carrots than sweet potatoes. Any idea what is up with that? I did have a ground hog that was plagueing the foliage and I never could catch him, but even still I had a 65 foot row of them planted and he didn't massacre all of them. It was more of planting for fun and experiment than anything.

if you mean they was shaped like carrot sounds like they just didnt have enough time to grow, they will usually be a few small ones like that but should have atleast 4 good sized taters under a vine have had up to 10-15.when did u plant and when did u dig?

we plant red pontiac taters. store bought taters arent fitten to eat after eating these home growns. we bought a 10lb bag and had to give them away.

If your sweet potatoe was skinny like a carrot, you either picked relly early, planted way too late, OR the ground was so compacted they could not expand.

I tried growing potatoes. Every animal and bug in the world likes them. They attracted so many bugs I had two snakes eating bugs (they were actually lizards but huge) and that did it, out they came. How do you control the bugs above and below ground.

Picked them right before the first frost. When you reckon is too late to plant?

Yeah I don't remember but I'll bet as wet as May was we didn't plant until June possibly. Too late I suppose but they easily got 4 months of growth time too.
