Started planting this area last year. About 5 acres overall, but reserved about an acre left in native browse (greenbrier, blackberry, coralberry, etc). Bushhogged and fertilized the native browse back in late May, then bushhogged strips in the native browse back in mid Sept. The bushhogged strips are lush with young and tender growth. The plot itself in the foreground has some wheat and brassicas, but a fair amount of weed competition as well (native browse in the background on the left side in the ground level pic). Overall, the planted portion of the plot is pretty poor. There's about 10 does and 7 bucks using this spot regularly to feed.
Drought years are prime to manage for native browse, and it makes for a great insurance policy!
