So I had a crazy idea and I think I might try it this comming summer. Any body ever heard of or tried planting bird seed for a summer grain plot? I think it wouldn't be a bad idea but what do yall think? And the stuff will sprout its everywhere under the bird feeders.

It will grow pretty good, or it does at my house. Around our fence I always have millet and milo coming up from bird crap .

Also I planted about 10 lbs of black oil sunflowers straight from the bird food isle and they did awesome.

Only thing is the price, they think a lot of that stuff!!

I've done it with several different mixes. It will grow just fine, but field rats and birds like it a lot more than deer do. The deer always just passed mine over to get to the better stuff. They wouldn't even look at it when I had soybeans next to it.

Never tried it for deer but if you can ever find some without cracked corn it'll grow a heck of a dove/quail/turkey field.

Price is the only negative. You could mix your own and get more for less cash.
