Do any of you guys buy bulk pistol bullets and harvester sabots to shoot in your ml? I see where several on this other website are shooting the Hornady XTP pistol bullets and sabots with pretty good luck and very little cost. I'm going to get some 200 grain XTP to try in my 45 Encore.

Yes I do buy them in bulk but I use the xtp 250 gr with the crushed rib black for my 50 cal omaga for range time.

Yes people do use them on deer a lot, but they fragment bad in deer and if you are eating the meat let's hope you don't bite down on the bullet. I use 300 gr rifle bullet less frag more knock down power. But that's me

if you are not pushing them over normal muzzleloader velocities[smokeless] you will not have a problem with fragmentation they mushroom great and to great terminal damage

Yes, a lot of ML shooters buy in bulk. The .400 200g XTP is an EXCELLENT bullet. They hold up extremely well and are devistating on deer.

i have been shooting the 240 gr. XTP for over 20 years and have never seen any fragmentation. i have several recovered bullets that were perfect mushrooms.

None came from my gun but I have seen several mushroomed XTPs myself. I have considered buying them in bulk but no more than I shoot my ML it would take a long time before I used up that many bullet/sabot combos. I just buy the Thompson Center 30 pack of XTPs and sabots for $11 or so.

Ya'll got me to wondering what different combos I could cook up by buying in bulk. Have any of you tried a Green Harvester sabot with a 180 grain 44 cal. XTP? I would be giving up 60 grains of weight but it would pick my velocity up.

That's what I'll be trying in my 45 encore the next couple times to see how they shoot.
