Okay after I read a post last night about a huge persimmon tree a member took a pic of... I was out today on a parcel of land I very seldom hunt. Now I can recongnize persimmons when I can see the leave or naturally see persimmons on the ground. However, I normally look at the bark and can tell...but this one being so big I am not sure. Is this a persimmon?

I think you are probably right, I didnt think the bark looked black enough to be a persimmon.

If I am not mistaken, in my region, persimmon, dogwood and sourwood are the only tree with this bark feature though right?????

Need a better look, to match with foliage. We actually have at least 2 strains of American Persimmon in my county, with both having slightly differing bark characteristics. It takes alittle bit before you can distinguish between the two. First glance tells me no on yours. But its not sourwood or dogwood.

I know the pics doesnt do much to help identify... but if we rule out persimmon, sourwood, and we know for sure it isnt a flowering dogwood, any ideas as to what it may be Steven?

Ive never seen a persimmon this big, and honestly dont think it is a persimmon, due to the fact there arent any seedlings growing around it anywhere. All the other persimmons I know of have some small one growing around it.

I will get some better pictures with an actual camera rather than my cell. One thing is for sure, wont be muh longer and a pair of binocs will tell me LOL

After looking at the bark again, I dont think its an ash tree. The bark doesnt relate to an ash tree?

Its a little over a mile walk to this tree, so im going to have to wait until this coming weekend to get better pictures :)

Dont think so but hard to tell from the pic. If so its the biggest (girth) I have seen.
