Going to Panama City beach in june and would like to spend a day fishing. Do you guys have any experience with the charters down there or have any advice?

My primary tactic is walk the docks in the afternoons around 4:30 to 6 PM. I always hit treasure Ship marina and Captain Andersons. You will find boat captains that are looking for people to charter half of the boat. A lot of people don't want to fork over the entire charter fee and look for someone to split it with.

It worked 100% of the time when I tried it.

The one I ended up going out with the most was Gotta Believe out of Treasure Ship Marina. His number is 850-234-9409 if you don't want to take a chance of not finding a split charter.

Im pretty sure i'm the only one in our group that will be fishing so i believe i will try your tactic. Thanks for the info!

I have always done real well catching Spanish Mackeral off of the pier. Every time I go, I think about getting a charter but always find my way back on the pier. You can catch a lot fish for cheap doing that.

I 2nd the pier fishing. kings, bull reds, cobia, spanish macks, bluefish, the occasional tarpon and dolphin(mahi) and even saw pics of a sailfish caught off panama city pier.

Inshore or offshore charter? I can send you phone #'s for either one.I've done good off the pier as well as the jetties in the state park.Caught over 50 mangrove snapper off the jetties today, but could only keep 5,still a fun time.Would be going after cobia tomorrow but the wind has been brutal the past 3 days and got some storms coming in tonight so We'll probably be after the trout and redfish in the bay.

The jetties in the state park was fun the last time we were there. We caught sheepshead, Spanish Mackeral, a grouper, and a mystery fish that was absolutely huge that spooled my buddy.

Thanks for all the replies guys! I might give a day of pier fishing a try as well. I had offshore charter on my mind but inshore isn't out of the question. The biggest reason i was thinking charter is i know nothing about saltwater fishing. Every year i say i'm going to spend a couple days of our trip fishing but never do because of lack of knowledge.

probably a king or a jack and it don't take a real big fish to spool you down there. they are strong and fast.

I always to to Half Hitch Tackle and get a fishing report. They are right down the road from Capt. Andersons Marina. Check out www.halfhitch.com also. I usually catch a lot of fish using buble rigs, gotcha plugs, and spoons. Good luck.

I'd make sure to visit the St Andrews State Park, there's an awesome swimming area for the family on one side of the Jetty while the other side has great fishing spots. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear and travel light if you plan on walking out onto the Jetty. There's a store there that sells licenses, baits, and rents equipment as well.We always make sure to go there at least 2 days out of our trip, it's a blast.

Good Luck to ya!

I got spooled twice off that jetty. snorkeling in the lagoon is a must

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like my brother in law and i will be getting a inshore charter one day and may give the jetty a try one day as well.

The jetty is a lot of fun, and a great chance to tangle with something big. If you want to test your reel, try rigging up with a 6-10" wire leader and a size 2 or 4 heavy duty treble hook. Buy some of the frozen cigar minnows, and hook them up through the bottom jaw up and come out through the upper jaw/snout. You can throw those a suprising distance, and a slow retrieve back may put you into a big jack or king.

14-18 inch steel leader(30 lb 7 strand) a 4x size 2 or 4 treble hook on one end and a 100 lb test BLACK swivel on the other end.
