I'm thinking of picking up one of the new 700 SPS in 30-06. Wally world has them pretty cheap right now. Any comments or opinions on them? I was told the earlier models had recalls for the triggers and safety malfunctioning. Supposedly that's been corrected (bad screw retaining compound). They are actually less money than the Ruger American right now....

I love Remingtons, but there quality control is hit or miss these days. Nice thing about M700's is you have plenty of aftermarket upgrades you can do. If you buy one from there, take a small flashlight and inspect the chamber to see if it looks nice and smooth and check the bolt face to see if it has a good finish. Dry fire it a couple of times and work the safety.

It's a shame that a once great manufacturer has fallen to such despicable levels. The older Remingtons are top notch but over the last 25 years the quality of their products has seriously eroded. Buy their older products, they are good.

Don't know about the new sps, my experience with older 700's has been all good. That is a good price. What calibers are they stocking?

My understanding of the safety issue, all 700's walmart's had before were sent back to remington, that according to gun counter manager, so that should not be an issue but would be advised to check it anyway.

I have a 700 SPS chambered in 30-06 that's about 4 years old. Before buying I talked to Remington and did my research on the trigger/safety issues...Remington told me if there is a little round punch on the square bolt release button that the gun has been sent back and repaired...idk about the newest model however.

As far as grouping and any other issues I've been very pleased. Hope this helps someone

A big fan of Remington but not the SPS. Had one but I didn't like the cal. 7mm.08 as far as the rifle felt, it was great. It just wouldn't keep a tight shot group for me, but I'm anal and want perfection. Good luck...

Were you shooting reloads or factory ammo? Just curious...I shoot the 180 gr core lokt in my 06 and usually get 3 shots touching at 100 yrd....occasionally there is one off a little...but I don't think it's the gun just me screwing up.

I'm not a fan of 7mm 08 in any gun however but thats just me know a few people who swear by em

Well, under further research and observation the said rifle is actually a 700 ADL with the X-Mark PRO trigger. 24" barrel, 4 round internal capacity, with 3-9x40 cheapo scope and rings. Think it's still a good deal at $377 plus fees???

I wouldn't rush on it. Academy Sports everyday price on this rifle is $379. However, Remington is running a $35 rebate on ADL's right now.

I have had 4 or 5 of these ADL's and they have all been shooters. I swap out the trigger and the stock and they are fantastic.

Still that's a pretty good deal. Thanks for the rebate info. Found it and gonna take advantage of that. Plus $2 off one box of ammo or $5 off two boxes.
