I enjoy growing trees that are are a plus for wildlife & have access to some sawtooth oaks & have grown several from seed in pots. I am not a fan of non-native species & have given the young trees away & not planted any on my farm. I spoke with a TWRA officer & he informed me that the state plants them on public land because of their high yield of mast. Whats your thoughts on this non-native tree?

I planted about one hundred ten years ago, they are absolutely loaded this year. I know this did'nt answer your question but, if it makes some food, I'm for it.

I like them...... If you come across extras I would take some off of your hands! :o)

I look at the benefit to wildlife and how invasive is the species. That being said I like them. I like the Chinese Chestnut as well. They are not native, but good mast sources.

I'd like to find some locally to plant this fall. If anyone knows where some are for sale. Please let me know

If they did get loose in forests it would not be a good thing at all. Will that happen though to any serious extent? I dont think but could be wrong. I have a few but dont consider them important in my situation. I believe I would need much more open ground and do a mass planting to achieve much in the way of attraction, both of my properties are over 70% oak, with the last cruise by my forester on one place showing 75% white oak so I just dont worry about acorns.

The Tn. state nursery has great deals on them, around 50 dollars per hundred if Im not mistaken. I love em, gonna plant more this fall.
