We hosted our big Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday which was the opener so I didn't get out. I carried my daughter this afternoon in Palmyra Tn (southwest Montgomery county). We saw a spike, a couple of button bucks, a really nice 2.5 year old 6 pointer and 8 does and fawns. It was a beautiful afternoon, cold and very little wind. But the most amazing thing that I observed is that we did not hear a single shot of any kind! We got settled in the blind at 2:45 and sat til dark and never heard a single shot. That was a first for me for an opening weekend in the afternoon. I guess everyone killed on Saturday or Sunday morning.

The experience is more than enough for me. If I get a deer too, even better.

I heard fewer shots than I've heard in years on opening day of gun. But, since muzzleloader season dates changed a few years back, I think the shooting is more spread out over a few weeks time instead of concentrated on gun opener.
