Not a gobble, which is my favorite, but not too far behind is an owl.

There is one hooting his head off behind my house a couple of hundred yards away. Love hearing them and whipporwills.

Honestly, my favorite sound in the woods is an owl hoot and here is why:

When I was a kid growing up hunting in the Southwest Bama Tombigbee river swamps, my Big Papaw (grandfather) would put me in the stand and then sit on the front porch right before dark in which he hooted up every owl in the swamps. We still own and hunt that land today. I learned how to owl hoot from him, and the owl hoot reminds me everytime of the good times with BIg Papaw. Now, as I am sitting around a fire calling up owls or hear one sound off while eagerly awaiting a turkey gobble and hear one, I always smile and say "Hey Big Papaw, I hope you doing good up there...I'll be seeing you again someday. Love ya man"

I hunt with his picture in my turkey vest every spring and plan on leaving a feather on his grave if I manage to kill one with his old humpback Browning A5

I was picking up limbs in my yard this afternoon and heard one hoot real close. I rounded the corner on the sxs and he was less than 50 yards from me. Sat there and let me get a pic of it.
