Good deal I usually wait till rifle to start hunting around there in the CNF. That's a great buck for public land around here.

Here's a few more public land deer I've killed. Archer 19 has killed some nice public land deer in Unicoi county also.

Wow those are all really nice bucks for this area especially on public land! I don't hunt it alot but usually I end up hunting probably 10 days a year on the CNF. I'm still looking for that SPOT where the deer are but the other hunters aren't lol I put on a lot of miles and still haven't found it. I usually hunt around the bumpas cove/Clark's creek area and a lil around buffalo mtn.

Mike, those are some fine bucks anywhere. But I know the work that goes into them here in the mountains.
We have good deer, smart, hard to hunt. Walk up ridges that make goat want to puke with a 50 lb pack on your back and maybe hunt several days without a sighting.

But boy when the stars align and the cards fall into place, man what a feeling.

Congrats on a great deer.

Hurry with the story.

OK, It was a rainy, cold pre rut November day and I had a feeling the noon to evening hunt was going to be where the action was. I decided to go in a little later in the morning. I arrived at my spot about 9:45am. I started still hunting into my stand. The 1st deer I saw was a big spike sneaking out of an old overgrown field. I gave him another year to grow. I got down into the hollow I hunt. As I got within about 75-100 yards of my stand I turned around to notice a deer at the top of the overgrown field. I got down as close to the ground as I could because I was kind of caught out in the open. At 1st I didn't notice anything wrong with the deer. Then I noticed he had a pretty good rack so I hunkered down even more. He made his way to the middle of the over growth and bed down. So there I was, caught out in the open with at least an 8 point within 75 to 100 yards of me bedded down. I watched him; remaining calm for about 30 minutes. Finally he stood up and started walking out of the field, that's when I 1st noticed he had a limp. So I put the cross hairs on him and Boom!!! He hit the ground...

My wife had just text me and ask if I had seen anything and I was getting ready to text her back I got a facebook message from a friend, Lee Nicholeson. He ask if that was me that shot and he was looking for a 8 point he shot early that morning. I knew then that was the deer he shot some 2 hours earlier. I had no idea he was even in there. Everyone who hunts this particular area knows where I hunt and pretty much leaves me alone. It just so happened I was in the right spot at the right time. He would have never found that deer. It had a torn up shoulder but no vitals were hit. You could say it was a team effort. We are good friends so we shared the buck. I got to claim it, take a few pics and he skint it and keep the horns. He kept the meet minus backstraps and tenderloins. Everybody wins!!! :D
