My wife is looking at a job in Ohio. It's in Columbus so I may be moving there. Not looking for any info in particular. You ever kill any big ones up there?
 
Yeah I've done alright. You'll like the hunting. There are some differences. Herd density is thinner than here so you probably won't see a lot of deer. It's a destination hunt so expect to see lots of hunters from lots of places. But that's for good reason. Racks get as big as anywhere on the planet. You'll see big deer, and no doubt will tag a few.

The only place I have ever been in Ohio is Cleveland and Columbus. I see a ton deer every time I am in those places. I would guess it is lack of hunting pressure in those areas, being they are more urban. My dad lives in Columbus and I have thought of going up and hunting to the north and/or the south of the city. I think there is public land in both directions. My brother is starting to bug me about it, so it may happen next year.

We'll definitely get after some sheds. Those big ole hills are going to be a learning curve for me but they'll be a lot of fun

Oh yeah that's the Ohio most people think of. It's flat with lots of ag. Totally different in the southern and eastern parts where it's Appalachian mtns with open mature hardwoods. It really is a tale of two states, in more ways than just hunting.

I hunted around Portsmouth a few years ago. That's about as far as it gets from flat!. Seems like the farther north you go the flatter it gets. I've been up around zanesville and it's not too bad there terrain wise.

Yeah that's right. Chillicothe is the line between the mountains to the south and glacial flats to the north. My place is between Chillicothe and Portsmouth near the Scioto River. It is not flat!

Yeah it's pretty cool really. Erosion over the last several hundred million years has worn them down to hikable size, but they still have their shape. It's feast or famine hunting. You can go days with no deer, then suddenly you're covered up. It's the least predictable deer I've ever hunted. But man you just never know if the next deer you see will be a 200 incher, because it's very much possible.

Not yet but have done some googling. My son moved there recently. Hoping to visit during deer season. Laws are a little different than I'm used to and gun seasons seems to be really short

Yeah it was from same county as my property. Not far at all. If it's where I think, my place is close enough to be in his range. Deer like that aren't terribly uncommon here. Several each year are taken. If i recall correctly, Ross County was was in the top 5 counties in the country last season for tagged booners.

Og buck from Ohio on archery talk forum. There several different post about the deer/fraud scandal. There one that had like 5 or 6 k comments

They estimated him to be the next world record. I think a guy by the name of Matt Beard bought that years set of sheds for $7000

He was big but that's high fence for you I guess. I think they were just letting him get to world record status then the chad dude was going to be filmed killing a world record by the company he worked for. Cant Remember the company name but it was a hunting outfit. Of course then his buddy called him out and his career was done.

Especially when they proved his 192 inch deer was fake a d his 213inch deer came of the deer farm. There was several people involved and they were planing it all out. Before the company took down all the videos there was one that he lets that deer walk when it was estimated to be 190ish. Huge red flag 😆

I was under the impression it was a fair chase deer and he made claims to have it on camera 20 miles from where the other residents of Chillicothe had pictures
