Are you fishing daytime or nighttime?
When I used to jug fish a lot, it was always at night. Hence I would only set lines 6-8 feet deep. I mostly fished downstream from Chickamauga Dam, drifting in the current. The main channel averaged about 15-16 feet deep, but I often drifted over holes 20-50 deep. Often caught fish over those deep holes on lines only 6-8 feet. Again, always at night. I never jug fished in the daytime.
