Need some regulation help guys.

I'm a TN resident that has hunted as a non resident for the last 10 years in Kentucky. My 8 year old is ready to kill his first deer.

From what I read no license is required for youth under age 12.

I've got to be missing something. I find it hard to believe as much as I pay as a non resident adult to deer hunt in KY that he's free and clear. How do I tag? Really no cost for him? We're in a CWD county so have to check in person and want to be on the up and up. Any KY experts here?

He's good until age 12. You can create a profile for him on KDFWR's website to assist with tagging. It's not needed though. Without the profile it won't show his name under telecheck.

You're reading that right. No license or permit required under 12 years old. Just use social security number when checking in. It'll ask something along the lines of "statewide hunting license or youth under 12 years old".

If you're hunting in one of the CWD surveillance counties then you'll want to check the deer in online or by phone before you take it to be checked in person. All they do is ask for your confirmation number and then take a lymph node sample. They only do CWD checks on certain weekends so might not even be setup for the juvi weekend. I haven't looked to see which weekends they'll be setup this year.
Edit to add- I just looked it up and it says the only mandatory check stations will only be Nov 8-10 this year.

If you're hunting in one of the CWD BS surveillance zones then you probably aren't far from me. Reach out if you need help with anything that weekend.

10-4. I'll try to set up his profile tomorrow. We're in Hickman / Carlisle Co so will be taking to Burnett's for processing.
