What's it called and why is it made? In essence, when/why does a buck make this vocalization?
I posted a video last year. That buck actually charged a doe as he made the growl, roar, or long grunt, whatever you want to call it. There were other bucks and does around. Definitely a dominance vocal, body language displayed dominance when I have seen it.

Who he is growling at is off camera in my video. Would love to know who. But he had been chasing does in the plot just prior to that.

Only thing I noticed was another one of those alien tree/light saber/abduction deals

Aka a spiderweb

Did he disappear afterwards? 🤪

I noticed that as well Pilchard. He didn't get "beamed up" until he got off camera. But since then, he's been walking funny. Must have been probed.

That right there is my favorite thing about those GardePro cams. You're going to be hearing a whole lot of weird vocalizations. Since I've been running these cameras I have come to realize deer don't make just a few sounds. There is an entire spectrum of sounds and most don't fit any of the commonly recognized categories. Grunts sound like grunts but outside of that they have an entire language that only they seem to understand.

I've heard a similar sound before at a distance.
I call it a grunt -(tic-tic-tic) - growl .
It starts with a long , low grunt , on to several rapid ticking sounds usually followed bye a running gruntal/ growl..
The tic sounds like popping your tongue in your mouth.

I've always thought it was a posturing move… doe or buck..🤷‍♂️

There was chasing going on when I've heard the sound as well.

And I think the Durury Boys did make a grunt roar growl call at one time. Maybe it was Grunt, snort , wheeze, I'm thinking of.🤷‍♂️

I can sorta Imitate it with my grunt tube also..
Never has never worked that I remember.
Not at that tone anyway.

The ticking sound a buck can make is very odd. I heard it for the first time several years ago. I was right near a thicket. I kept hearing it but couldn't figure out what it was. I knew some deer were in the vicinity.

I think someone on here talked about and that's how I learned it was a buck.

I call it clicking, but on calm days hearing one I can't see clicking always gets my attention. In my experience clicking has always turned out to be from at least a 3.5 year old bucks.

He started out with a tic grunt and tried to go into a growl.

I used a tic grunt this year to turn a big 6 year old around to put an arrow in him. That's my go to call when I have a mature buck close. I've never heard a young buck make that vocalization before, which is why I use it on old mature deer.
