I posted earlier some pictures of my sunflower plot when they were about a foot high. Now the sunflowers over six feet tall where they get direct sun: under he trees they are 2 to 3 feet tall. I purchase the black oil sunflower seeds (bird seed) from Tractor Supply and planted about an acre all together. When it started to finally rain they took off. Last year when I planted the deer wiped them out in just a few days. I did not plant as many as I did this time and there are some tracks around the edge but I cannot find any sign that they have been feeding on them. I was playing with the macro on the camera and thought I got a few good photos of the bees working the sunflowers over.

looks nice. i planted the birdseed type from walmart too in my garden just to see how the cheep ones would work. so far coming along just fine. i guess there is no need to buy those seeds for 50$ per bag from the seed stores

The name brand at my coop was 85$ a bag the seed type was 25$ we planted three of the seed type on two and a half acres and they are doing well.

The deer have kept mine mowed down. 3' is the tallest they have been eating leaves stalks and all.
