I had the chance today to play with the new optima that my uncle bought and let me say I was really impressed. It has the black synthetic thumbhole stock with the nickel fluted barrel. CVA has made great improvements to this gun. I have the '08 model and this gun has everything I want mine to be. The trigger is great it is much lighter. The thumbhole is stock is much improved it seems to shoulder better. The "wrenchless" breech plug is awesome, makes cleaning a breeze. I also like that they moved the break latch to the forward part of the trigger guard instead of the bottom. And overall it shoots awesome. I am very pleased with the direction that CVA has gone with their muzzleloaders.

Does the primer gas still vent between the barrel and the forearm? It always bugged me how the ramrod got dirty if you shot the gun with the ramrod in place.

No, with the QRBP there is no room for a gas port to vent excess gas into the forearm area. That WAS a pain to clean! LOL

Anyone know why they changed the hole pattern for the scope base? I have been trying to get a scope base for my new one and haven't had much luck.

The only thing I've been told will fit a 2010 optima is the Z2 alloy Dead-On mount. I went through the same thing. I bought this and it fits perfect.

I guess I may have to try that. I know all of the others I've tried will not bolt up. Still haven't figured out why they made that change the hole pattern on the older ones worked just fine and you can get just about any mount for the older hole pattern. Just wondering does the Z2 mount keep the scope close to the barrel? From the picture it looks like a tall mount.
