I got a new gun today in 7mm Mag. I know very little about the boss system but from what I've seen on forums its a good fine tuning shot tool. This gun will be used to hunt, so dot shooting is not what I'm looking to do but I do like to be confident in a rifle and shot placement. Has anyone ever had one of these rifles and had good success with the eclipse, are they good rifles ?

I have a Browning Abolt in 300 WinMag with the BOSS.

There are two kinds of BOSS. One that reduces recoil and another that does not. Both have the ability to tune the barrel by adjusting the BOSS.

Mine is incredibly loud. I shoot at MSSA and have been asked to hold off, it is THAT loud.,

It is also very accurate. Make your adjustments and you can bring your point of impact to a very small circle. You should, I would say you MUST, wear hearing protection at all times. Including in the field.

There is a BOSS replacement that does not have the recoil reduction feature. I actually thought all new BOSS came with both of them......

I bought a Eclipse with the BOSS a few years back. After the first time I shot a deer with it and had ringing in my ears for about 3 days. I cut the BOSS off and recrowned the barrel.

I love the boss and it's a fine tool. If you did not get the CR conventional recoil attachment, call browning and they might send one for free. They sent me one as I'm sure they don't need lawsuits for hearing loss. I range shoot with the muzzle break and hunt with the CR. The change in POI is negligible.

I have several custom rifles and have breaks on all them. Yes they loud but helps with accuracy n kick.

I have the same rifle in 7mm-08 (without the boss) and it shoots awesome. Have not found a factory round that doesnt group at 1" or better at 100yds.

I've always wanted a rifle with the Boss to experiment but still have not gotten around to it. I once bought 5 Winchester model 70's with the Boss but got them to sell so never even fired one. Theoretically you should be able to use any load and get good accuracy simply by experimenting with positioning the Boss. I'd for sure go with the non-recoil reducing version. You're shoulder will heal but your ears not so much.

I've only fired one rifle with a ported barrel though and that is my Weatherby 460 so I really don't know how much difference there would be with a cartridge such as the 7mm Rem Mag ported vs. un-ported. The 460 is loud - it always gets mean stares at a shooting range - but I never notice a difference when hunting. That don't mean that it's good for my ears though!

I bought an A Bolt II with BOSS the first year they were available. 270 WIN. The thing really works. I was shooting factory ammo and was getting a bit over 1 " group at 100 yard. I changed the BOSS settings a few notches and shot a one-hole group. I moved the setting and it went back to 1". Moved it back to the sweet spot, and another half-inch group.

They sent me the CR non-muzzle break for free and it works just as well.

My A-Bolt 300 WinMag with Boss has nearly no recoil with the brake.

I cannot shoot it at the range with anyone present. It is that loud. The sideblast is tremendous. Shoot it at dusk for 4th of July effects.

You can dial in core-loks to sub moa.
