Hey with Labor Day approaching I am thinking of buying a new grill (hopefully on sale). Have any of you bought one of the infra-red grills? I have talked to two people and one said they loved it and the other said I could have his if I would come and get it. He claims there is too much maintenance.

If you have bought one of the grills... I would love to hear your comments.

Thanks...

I don't have one, but I wouldn't say that precludes me from offering an opinion......

I think these things are one step above a Foreman Grill. Once you lose the open flame, I think it loses something in both flavor and authenticity. It just seems like cheating. But more practically, here are some downfalls I see:

1) Lost efficiency when the meat drips onto the heating surface and cakes to it
2) You're limited by a cord and where you can plug in your outdoor meat iron
3) Unknown product reliability

Benefits:
1) Quick cooking time
2)
3)
4) I just don't see how the benefits outweigh currently available (and probably less expensive) options.

I am not even sure #1 is a benefit...unless its raining, or scorching hot...or otherwise unpleasant outside. I enjoy grilling.

Yep.....I bet you'd be hard pressed to find someone on TNDeer that would sanction the use of non-fuel-burning grills.

I actually have both, plus the smoker, turkey fryer...etc. However, some nights I just dont have the time to get the charcoal going and its better than the stove top.

The one I am looking at is the Chargrill "Professional" series that actually has a side cast iron gridle. I am not sure how often I would use it, but I never use the side "eye" burner.

Thanks.

You can actually remove the stainless "infra-red" plates and use it as a regular gas grill.

"Still on the fence" Thanks.

In 15 min I can have my Primo at 600degres ...I'm cooking pulled chicken (smoked) At the store today. I took my High end gas grill to deer camp once I got one of these at home....

I have a gas grill and wanted a charcoal grill also. I bought that Kingsford grill at WalMart for $100 and its great!!! Hold heat suprisingly well. Love it!!!!

Well... I bought it. INFRARED!

However, I am not sure that I am going to like it. I cristened it with Beef Tenderloin this past weekend and the texture was great, it was juicy inside with a nice outside crust! However, although my grill was showing 650 degrees... I had to cook the steaks about an extra five minutes than normal to get the same medium rare. Will try it again this weekend. Just dont know.

BTW - Lowes has their Charbroil Commercial Series Grills on sale through Monday.
