Just a heads up to those that don't know. Leupold only cover manufactor defects and only on glass items now. I've been scope hunting and was eyeing nikon then got talked into leupold or vortex. After researching apparently vortex cover everything even if it's your fault. To me that's huge being in the field. Anyway just wanted everyone to know about leupold since some here apparently still think they cover everything.

I used to be a Leupold guy then went through the same thing with them ... Was a Nikon guy until I actually had to use their warranty ... Yes the took care of me ... But it took almost 8 weeks... A buddy swore by Vortex since he's been using them ... he has like 4 ... He bought a new one for another rifle he got and had an issue with it ... Called them up said no problem here's a RA number ... Email us a tracking number when you send it out and we will get a new one on the way .... 5 days after sending it off he received a new one .... So after the Nikon deal with me I purchased a Vortex and I have to say the glass is clearer than a comparable Nikon by far ... I have one Leupold and several Nikons so if and when the need arises for a new scope it will be a Vortex.

Your just another testimony that makes me want to go towards vortex. And they support law enforcement and military heavily which is also fantastic. Probably gonna order the diamondback 3-9x40 for my new savage 308

I got the 4x12x40 for my Ruger M77 308 ... Live from the stand ... LoL

I think if I break something it is reasonable for me to have to pay to fix it. If it fails under normal use then that is another story.

I have some Nikon binocs with their lifetime warranty. They stopped focusing. I sent them in and they said the problem was from them being dropped. There were no marks on the outside. I wear a bino harness and put them in a pack otherwise. I never dropped them. My word vs theirs, kind of disappointing.

I understand the responsibility argument but if a company has such good customer service that they will cover it then that's great. You should get that with higher end products imo. Like built in insurance, no different than buying insurance on any other product. I appreciate good customer service and want to support companies who still have it.

I've read multiple stories of Vortex going above and beyond. I had to use Nikons warranty a couple years ago and it took them almost 4 months to replace a defective scope. Then the one they replaced it with wouldn't adjust. I just trashed it and went to only buying Vortex products. So far 4 scopes and 2 red dots with no trouble.

I can't fathom why that would deter you from a scope manufacturer but good luck with Vortex, you'll use their customer service.

It deters me when a comparable product has better service is all. Just like we just bought my wife a toyota. Some dealerships offer lifetime powertrain warranty and some don't. We chose to buy from a dealership with the warranty. Why not have product protection? And why do you say I will use the customer service? Have you had bad experience with vortex?

Lifetime power train warranty's are interesting. To get the dealership to honor them you need to do either of two things:
1. Have the dealer perform every recommended maintence issue when it is required and keep all receipts.
2. Do it all yourself or have another shop do the work and save the receipts to prove it was done.

I have Vortex Vipers on rifles with twice the recoil of a 300 win mag. None have failed. I did use their customer service when I damaged an eyepiece and was more than satisfied. I'm not gonna bash the other 2 mentioned brands but dollar for dollar, they aren't a match for Vortex and their awesome customer service.

That's kind of the way I feel. I nocked my Vortex binoculars off the tailgate last week and they fell on concrete. It bend the metal interior ring on the objective end. It didn't affect the view, and I'm sure Vortex would replace them, but I would almost feel bad even asking! Then again, I knew about their warranty when purchasing the binoculars, and I'm sure they have calculated that in to the price of the product.

I didnt start this post to offend anyone. If you like leupold that's great and their scopes probably are fantastic. I was just sharing the info because from what I gathered many people still thought leupold covered everything and didnt realize they only cover manufacture defects. From what I was told they used to cover their glass whether it's your fault or theirs it didn't matter. If they never had that warranty before then it wouldn't be an issue with me. But after being raised around business and working around customer service anytime i see a company reduce their warranty coverage it's a red flag. That's all. If my info is incorrect then someone please correct me on their past warranty.

we know what you mean,no offenses taken.I just don't see how any company can stay in business replacing the defects caused by the consumer

Where did this info come from? You are vague as to who told you this. Also I can see where some people would think the Leupold warranty guarantees them a free scope for life no matter how they abuse it if the manufacturer will replace it no matter what. No manufacturer can stay in business by eternally replacing something they sell no matter the abuse it suffers. I do know that a couple of weeks ago I broke one of their Weaver Style ring clamps when installing it and a quick call to Leupold was all it took for them to send me 3 free clamps free of charge with no questions asked as to how they broke. They could have easily said that I over tightened them and refused to send me new ones.

I looked all over and even on their website and I have not found anything that has changed in their warranty personally.

FWIW:
Unfortunately, these warranties do not apply if the product has been modified, misused or has been damaged by accident, abuse, or misapplication. To ensure this doesn't happen to you, contact Leupold Product Service before having any work or repairs done to your valuable Leupold optics. Call 1-800-LEUPOLD or (503) 526-1400.

I do know one thing for sure, you can cerekote a scope and it not void the warranty from them...I called them about doing mine and they said it would not. just an FYI incase anyone was going to or has done it before.

I've bought leupold over the past 25+ years and will continue to do so for, hopefully, another 25 years. I've had nothing but good results with their service. I once scratched a lens and I knew it was my fault and was happy to have it replaced on my dime. While they did charge me for the repair, they cleaned and adjusted the rest of the optics and they were as new when I got them back.
