I went today to buy my first ever pistol and was denied. I felt rapped such a bad feeling the shop owner was nice and we faxed the appeal in and now he says to wait 2 weeks. What really worries me is that I have a Benelli on order and have been waiting for 2 months on it and it is all paid for. I have bought many long guns in the last few years from dealers and Walmart and my record is clean. What could be the problem and is there a easier way to dissolve the issue please help? I tried calling TBI but no one would answer and even tried the local Sheriff but no one has responded to my messages. Any help is greatly needed. I feel like I lost my rights. Funny thing is at my job we have to be bonded and a Government back ground check is done we print the new US savings Bonds and if something wrong I could lose my job. Thanks for the help

Never heard of that before.
Has to be a mistake.

I would not wait 2 weeks on an appeal.
Make some calls tomorrow and straighten this mistake out.

Don't know.

I do know it's illegal for someone else to buy a gun for you.
Don't let a friend buy the Benelli for you, even though it's paid for.
Then you or he could have a real problem to deal with.

it happens all the time i am a ffl and it seems to happen to women more than men probably a name hit or something where there is someone out there with your same name with a felony. It does not usually take two weeks for the appeal but with them being overloaded it might. dont worry it will get figured out. i will say that i had a woman turned down for real for writing bad checks

Do you have a common name? If so, I know the previous 4473 forms asked for your SSN as an option. Most are opposed to putting this info. on the form but one thing is for sure...It will correctly identify you as the correct "John Smith".

Same thing happened to my youngest boy about 4 months ago, nobody would ever give us an answer. The shop called in 3 days and said they had no idea but it went through. Computers I guess.

I hate to Hi-jack but since you seem to have gotten the info you needed, this is funny.
I'm a cop. I've had hip and knee surgery so I'm working at the front desk taking walk-in reports and reports over the phone.
Guy comes in says he bought and paid for a gun, failed the background check and they won't let him have "his" gun.
Them keeping his money told me they wanted him to hang around so I checked the guy thru our computer and he has a warrant.
I stall and BS the guy and call a cop that ain't crippled.
We take him into custody and it turns out to be a Capias (bench warrant for not showing up in court).
Go to the computer to find out what he didn't show up for.
This brain surgeon was arrested for discharging a weapon in the City Limits. They had already locked him up for this, seized the weapon and set him a court date and let him bond out.
He was getting a gun to replace the one that was seized when he was arrested!!

Thanks TrapperJohn I will call tomorrow and see what happens and don't worry LCU no law breaking for me.

Just wanted to be sure you knew it was illegal.
I bought a shotgun as a gift for a friend of mine once, and later found out it was illegal to do so. I didn't kknow it at the time.

you can give it as a gift there is no problem with that at all. you just cant buy a firearm for someone that is going to pay you back for going and getting it for them you can give gifts.

trust me when you get your FFl they walk you through every situation. i own a pawn shop and the worst thing is you have to pass a back ground check to redeem a pawned firearm. i have had two people not be able to get their gun back. it is a bad situation but we tell them up front that them and the gun will have to pass a background check when they pick it up

"If during the background check TICS locates a record with outstanding disqualifying charges or charges that are undeterminable as disqualifying, TICS will deny the transaction."

So much for innocent until proven guilty.

up date on the issue state of TN is saying that a misdermener that I got in Georgia is a felony. This happen in 2002 and I called Georgia because honest I put that part of my life behind me and moved on learning a lesson and growing up. Well Georgia said it was a type oh and they would get back to me now i'm worried because were I work we are not allowed to have anything on our record. I guess I'll have to get a Lawyer because this is not going anywere fast and with the way jobs are I can't afford to lose mine. Does anyone know of a good Lawyer close to Columbia TN. that is cheap.

no input on the lawyer, but the court clerk where it occurred should be able to correct it. was it a pre-trial diversion type of deal? you know where they will expunge it from your record if you dont get into trouble for a year.

my wife had the same trouble a couple years ago. she thought that they automatically expunged it from her record. nope. she had to pay a fee to the circuit court clerk, then he expunged it. she was trying to buy a rifle for my Christmas present. we called tics, the head of the TBI and the FBI field office before we got a straight answer.

what was screwed up was that with her in my house, i couldnt legally have a gun in the house because of the STRAW law. the guy at the TBI said i could get arrested, but he was a nice guy and just told me to get it straightened out ASAP.

hope this helps some
