It can take me fifteen minutes to tie on one of those size 22 midges and then with one errant cast in less than one second put 32 knots in the tippet.

An old fart needs to have a wading staff or a good stick when wading trout streams.

It sure would be helpful if someone went in front pruning all those low hanging branches on the stream.
 
My observation to your observation..... Somebody lied to you ;). I have caught thousands of trout over 35 + years of only flyfishing and NEVER used a #22 fly. ;)
- I totally agree on the wading staff .....
- fish tailwaters. Big rivers, bigger fish, no branches!
