This has been a tough season. I wounded a nice buck during muzzleloader and then a dandy ten during rifle opener that ended up scoring 149 (killed by another hunter).

I decided to not use trail cameras this year for the first time in years. This definitely made me a less effective hunter. I also found myself getting impatient in the stand wondering if there was even a shooter in the area.

Well, I dropped the hammer on what appears to be an older deer (5+). I believe he was on his way down antler-wise. He was skirting an edge between a thicket and a dense stand of pines. I dropped this old boy in his tracks.

This buck has the most mass of any buck I've killed. I generally don't see this heavy of mass in my area. I thank the good Lord for this one!

Congrats, you always manage to kill a good one, if I could ask, why did you decide not to run trail cameras this year.

Congrats! great buck! What were the H1's? 5.5?

I didn't put a tape to it, but I'd say 5.5 would be a good guess. I think his actual bases would be around 6.
