In my opinion , you really can't blame it on the cat? Anyone dumb enough to have a cat in their home should expect this kind of stuff. My brother had the same thing happen to his full body turkey mount. I told him don't even talk to me about it, you're the one living with cats!

BTW - I really don't like cats! The reasons are way too long to list!
