yes the nipple can be removed for easier cleaning of it & the rifle,that pocket is a bad place to trap crud & cause missfires,mike243

They make a special wrench for taking those off.. Called a Nipple wrench.. can pick one up at most good sporting good stores..works a whole lot better then a pair of Vice-Grips...

if you haven't gotten it removed yet. take round tooth pick plug nipple hole and pour 1/4 oz. of liquid wrench down the bore and let it sit several hrs and try to break it free
