Finally got the monkey off my back. Haven't killed a deer in a couple of years mainly being picky and if my son is with me he does the shooting and a couple deer a year is all we need. Well I lost a really nice buck during muzzleloader and am still sick about it. Been thinking about hunting near a thicket a couple hundred yards from the camper and decided to yesterday. I got in the tree around 1:30 and the wind was perfect for a while and then it started shifting back and forth so I figured I wasn't going to see anything. Just after 4:30 I catch movement and its a doe coming out and her mouth is open trying to catch her breath. Originally I was going to shoot her and then started computing what was happening. A minute later i see another deer on her trail and its this guy. He's facing me but looking left at her. I can see the points but not sure on width but see he looks good enough so I settle the crosshairs on his chest and let the .243 Encore bark. He flipped backwards and dropped right there. Didn't have scales but I'd guess in the 150-175 lb range. His neck was big and his tarsal glands stunk to high heavens.
