I've got to brag a little bit about the new Marlin XL7 bolt action. For less than $300 out the door this rifle can not be beat in my opinion. I bought it late last year and put an old 3-9x50 scope on it. It shot very good...hit a baseball at 100yrd consitently. Well this year I ran across a deal at Cabela's. The Nikon range finder 500 series and a BDC scope combo for about $290 shipped to the house. I was in it more for the range finder but was wanting to update the scope on my rifle as well.
Simply put - with a desent scope on the Marlin XL7 in 30-06 a dime at 100yrd does not have a chance of escaping the rapture of a Hornady 150gr SST...I would post the pic but it did not come out well. I grouped 3 rounds together that a dime would cover up completely at exactly 100yrds (used the new range finder). Some of the best shooting I have ever done and it was off a bench and the little Remington shooting bags that you can buy at Wally World...
Not a fancy gun but amazingly accurate and is very easy to clean, carry, and shoot. I am very impressed by this rifle and very happy I purchased it. Anyone looking for a new hunting rifle should check it out before purchasing any other more expensive rifle.
Statements above are true to my experience and opinions are just that... my opinion based on the rifle I purchased at the Bass Pro Shop, a Marlin XL7 in 30-06 shooting a 150gr Hornady SST with the Nikon BDC rifle scope.
