Hey guys...Im not a poster on this site, but love to read all the relevant post! You can say that I'm finally graduating to the next level in hunting and would like to get into the DIY western hunts for deer/elk. However, Im the only one in my hunting group that either can go or desires to do so. This is why Im asking here if anyone is willing to lead me in the right direction or would consider accepting another hunter into your group.

I bow and rifle hunt, love to backpack and Im in great condition...therefore I'm prepared and exicited about pursuing the DIY western hunt, just don't want to venture on my own.

I'm not looking at "trophy" hunting, more of the experience.

Thanks for any help!

Honestly any of the big western mountain states for mule deer, elk, antelope, and even whitetail (assuming they would be more of a bonus tag, not the primary animal hunted).

Colorado seems feasible because of the easier to get non-resident tags, but if I could get in with a group to lead me in the right direction so I could start applying for preference points I would do so.

I would also like to plan a black hills Merrimam turkey hunt this spring if I could find a few folks to go.

I've already got a few hunts lined up this year.. Antelope in Wyoming, Duck/goose in Montana, Duck/goose/pheasants in North,South Dakota and Pheasants in Nebraska.. If you wanna go hit some birds. Your more than welcome to come along..

Ohh and Ducks/geese in Michigan.

I don't necessarily have a group already but would like to put one together. I am doing a backpacking trip for bear/deer this coming fall. So far im going solo. Anyway if you are interested give me a shout. What is your preferred hunting weapon?

My weapon choice is fully dependent on the regs where I hunt. I enjoy Archery but where I mainly hunt around here I switch to gun/mzl when it opens. With that being sad I do seek out archery only areas such as Ft Campbell, LBL, etc. I would really like to get a archery hunt set up for elk/deer in Colorado public land.

I am either going to starr mountain or tellico mainly to hunt bears but also deer and hogs. I want to go during archery season. A colorado elk/mulie combo hunt on public land would be great too!

I have decided on a solo trip this year to hunt goats...I will post a report later, should be back by late Oct.

WY has left over tags...I bought a left over tag for 23-1 just last week. It does not have a lot of accessable public ground though

I choose WY because I can hunt every year and still build points, i love the country out there. If you got the time to go pretty good chances of coming across some goats, but if you only have 3 days or so area 23 and others like it can be a nightmare.

lol, I'll bet that is what he is talking about. I was picturing mountain goats in my mind, I am not real big on pronghorns, just too hot when it is time to hunt them.

I hunt them later in October after the masses have fInished hunting, more ground to yourself and cooler temps
