this will be my first ever mule deer hunt.. I have been elk hunting a "friend of a friends" place in CO for the last three years now.. Every day I hunt, I see tons of mule deer. So this year I put in for a mule deer tag and was drawn :super:

the guy sent me this yest, asking me which one I wanted him to tie up for me.. Seems they come out every eve behind his horse barn, plus a bunch more ..

I'm jealous of you this year but hoping I'm in your boat next year! I should have enough points to draw next year for a northern unit (30) on a second season tag. Not that I don't want an elk also next year but mule deer is my priority if I draw.

Nice!
Do you have any that come out of the high country in that ranch while your out there?

I think the mule deer are all local, but really don't know .. The elk migrate down each year to their ranch, and some like it so much they never leave.. They see very few elk each year, until september.. once archery season hits, the elk start hiding on their place.. once the snow hits the high country, elk show up in droves !

If things go as planned me and my youngest brother are headed that way end of Aug to do some backpacking and get Poser to shows us around.
If I see a good one I will tie him up for ya[emoji3]

if your going north of durango, in the san juan mts, that is some serious country ! i've heard that you can ride the train from durango, up towards silverton, and they will let you get off the train on up in the mountains and hike out.. i've even heard some bow hunters take the train & get off in the high country

Yep, the train is plan A. Since we will be out around Labor Day I want to stay away from the joker crowds, as much as I can anyways.

I have been in Durango and went to Silverton and rode the train back down. That is some rugged, beautiful country. I would think you would have to be in good shape to hike out of their packing a mule deer. Makes me wish I was 40 year younger. I would love a hunt like that if I was able.

I wasn't on that hunt, Poser cheated on me then. Our epic hunt was the Arizona Coues Deer hunt.
