I posted this in the classifieds but thought there might be a better chance of finding what I'm looking for over here. I'm looking for a Remington Mountain Rifle in 25-06 with the detchable box mag for a young hunter. I've got a stock left over from a rebuild that I can cut down for him for now and have the other left when he grows into it. I might also consider a Rem Model 7 in 7mm-08, 260, or any other similar caliber but not 243. Thanks.

I bought my son a Model 7 "youth" rifle and it performed very well the first couple of years.
For some reason after that the accuracy just seemed to "go away" with it.
Never did figure out what happened.
Thinking we might have gotten it a little too hot sighting in and practicing.

Yeah Ruger, had exactly the same thing happen with my 25-06 mountain rifle. Shot too much at long range silhouettes, so I tore it down had the action trued, put on a hart barrel chambered in 25-06, put it in a HS precision stock, Jewell trigger, topped with a Leupold 6.5-25 with a 20moa long range base. Had all the smith work done by Dan Dowling in Colorado. I've shot it all the way out to 1000 and it is the best shooting rifle I've ever owned.

Run some Wipe Out foam cleaner down it and let it sit until you can see thru the barrel. Sounds like you might have some excess copper build up.

Just my guess.

FYI:

I believe Federal is making reduced recoil 308win with 125gr bullets if recoil is an issue. I bought my oldest boy a Youth Rossi in 243win and it was a piece of junk. Before I get hate mail about the Rossi's I know most are good shooters. This one had trigger/hammer problems.
