I had been wanting to get another box or two of Longbeard XR just to keep as I had gave away or sold most of mine last time I checked my safe... I had remembered rogers sporting goods had it for cheaper... if anyone needs a few more boxes it's pretty well priced right now, if you like 5 shot

Update to this post...

NOW Winchester is offering a $5 per box rebate, max $100 rebate per household.

https://winchester.com/Rebates/2026-Winchester-Turkey-Ammunition-Rebate

So... if you buy 10 boxes from rogers at $15.99 per box, they will end up costing you about $110...

100 turkey killing shells for about the same price as 5 shells of 12g TSS

If I weren't so set on shooting #6s, id be all over this deal!

Heck, im tempted to get them for coyote hunting!

About 20 more pellets.

But I talked with a couple buddies, we are going to split a case of 10 boxes for coyote hunting at this price with the rebate.
glad you updated this, I ordered another case of this ammo just because of that... my total ended up being $175.... so, if i get my rebate it'll end up being $12.50 per box. been quite awhile since I've seen some Longbeard xr for that price

high velocity doesnt mean better, some of the best duck loads made are 1200fps and under but it sure sounds a lot better from a selling point to say 1500fps.

a turkey load going at a turkey 30yds away will make ZERO difference kill wise if its 1200 or 1000fps
exactly right... turkey won't know which one punched his ticket 😆

All i shoot is the 4's and 5's i despise 6's
Why???

You give up almost 100 pellets going down to #5 from #6 lead shot in the 1 3/4 Oz load.

You give up another 65 pellets going from #5 lead down to #4.

Give me pattern density over penetration at 40y and in... and #6 will still give you the wiggle room in the penetration department if you misjudge a bird and he is 45y.

I just dont trust 6 in lead, not enough punch for my liking. When i can do this with 4's at 20 and 40 i have no need for small 6's

Photoshop the receipt to say 6. 🤣 I bought a box of 12ga Longbeard XR 5's the other day but already threw the receipt out. Not sure what day it was though. Oh well I've since bought 2 boxes of Apex tss 9's for the 20ga so I don't need more 12's at this point.

Got my Carlson longbeard xr 660 choke today rem 870 28" barrel bead only, 3" longbeard 5 shot, measured 40 yd 66 pellets in 10" circle, was hoping for more might try 6 shot an see what they do, what's y'all's thoughts

that's exactly the same combination I use when I pull out my 12 gauge to hunt turkeys with... what i used for years before using my Stevens 410. don't know if it's just your gun but mine was absolutely annihilating the target out to 50 with that set up. at 60 I still had 36 pellets in the head/neck kill zone of a turkey splatter target. maybe try it on some of those targets and check? also, I've had a lemon on that particular choke and had to get a new one, but all the others performed great (as I've had a few 12 gauge 870s with a Carlsons longbeard xr in them)

This. Faster isn't better, at least for the pattern. The higher the velocity, the better the chance of having a hole in your pattern.

Almost got to blast a yotie on south MS public today with them. Pair came working into my turkey calls, if they had stayed on the line they were following, they would have crossed at 40y. Unfortunately at 60y, they veered off away. I called again and they worked back in but now downwind, and they caught my scent at 70y.

Feels good to have $1.10 ammo chambered and ready to rock instead of $10 ammo.

Got red dot on today an shot couple times
Where is the center of your pattern?

Shoot at least a 36in x 36in paper, find the densest core, then make your 10in circle.. adjust your red dot to that core.

What you posted is not normal for LB XRs if it was the center of your pattern. Try a different choke.
