I am going to try and slip out about 4 this afternoon, but I haven't had time to scout the place I'm hunting this year. I was wondering if I should hunt some oak trees or the open fields? Are the oak trees dropping already? Thanks in advance, this year snuck up on me!

Id go for oaks. Mine have started dropping. The advantage to hunting the field would be seeing where deer are coming in/out. I think you would be more likely to kill around acorns if you havent scouted either yet.

I'd say the field edge myself, its still early and they are fairly predictable. with that being said, if you do find acorns with a bunch of sign, don't be afraid to hunt it. I myself am not one to scout for deer, I prefer not to walk all over the woods and fields stinking everything up. With that being said, I have also been hunting the same farms for 10-25 years and I know about all there is to know about how to hunt them. lol

I would say it depends on what the fields are. If its a bean field, I'd skip it and go for the oaks. If it's just a field with grass, I'd hunt it. Both evenings that I hunted this week had the deer browsing in the field.

With that being said, if you don't have a real good idea where the deer will enter the field, I'd hunt the oaks.

Not knowing anything else I would walk the edge of the field looking for trails. Once I found one that worked with the wind would hopefully find a tree 20 or so yards inside the woods. Good luck

I don't know how you can not scout oaks. I wouldn't hunt them not knowing whether or not they have mast. No mast and you're wasting your time. Right now you know if you have beans or corn.

Good point. However, I have hunted this spot for the past 10 years and every year there are acorns there. I just couldn't recall if they had fallen this early or not.
