Maybe he wanted less pressure.

With some success he should be able to recruit pretty well and field decent teams. Plus, I'd imagine he could tap into some serious NIL $ to offer recruits.
 
Surprising to me too. But, It wasn't going to get any easier for him at OU with their upcoming move. And I suppose you can't argue theres also a hotbed of talent in Southern California so a competent recruiter and coach should be able to compete in the PACwhatever relatively quick.
Still surprised though.

He went 10-2 this season and more then half the fan base was upset... Now they really upset from what some are reporting.

He was 0-3 in the playoffs, both bama and UGA put him out.

He seen the writing on the wall 10-2 was no longer good enough at Oklahoma, and he would be lucky to get that once Oklahoma moves to the SEC.
