Let's Make A Deal

In all my years of hunting I've killed one ten point. Fortunately he was big enough to make the Tennessee Deer Registry at 145' 7/8 from McMinn county. I would like to top it, but I don't think I ever will.

My dream deer has always been a big main frame 10 which I still lack. I have killed 3 - 9 pters, a truck load of 8 pters including several good ones with one pushing 140", and quite a few 7 pters. I did last year kill a deer that had 12 scoreable points. However, he was a main frame 9 with a funky split brow tine on one side that ended up having four points i.e. 8 on one side and 4 on the other.

I remember a few years back watching what would be my biggest buck to date working his way towards me and waiting for a shot. I was calm as can be focusing on getting a shot through the thick stuff. He stopped and somehow he turned his head, and I saw a g4 on his left side. My heart instantly went to pounding, and buck fever started to take over. About that time he turned his head perfect the other way, and I saw that there was no g4 on his right side. I instantly went back to normal breathing. :)

I think that someone could tie a 10 up to a tree for me, and it would somehow figure out how to get untied. :) I have only saw one main frame 10 in the woods to my knowledge. They just don't seem to grow in my area. I have already come to accept that if I am going to kill a booner that it will have to be an 8 pter. :)

Me too. It has been about the same timeframe and it also took me several years before the 9 came along. Yesterday my wife shot her best buck to date and it was a beautiful 9 pointer and she has only been hunting for about 4 yrs. She is now up to about 15 deer in four years.

Same here. Over 30 years hunting. Lots of 8s and under. I have killed two mainframe 9's but I really want to get a 10 or better.

My first deer was a main frame 9 with a huge body that still hangs on my wall. Killed him November 29th 1995.

Been trying ever since to get one bigger. Killed a 6 with a bigger body than the 9 but was a tiny basket rack.

Maybe this will be the year!

i shot a 10 pt that was a 9pt when i found him. he did a header into a tree and broke the G4 off the left side.

Reading this has shown me how blessed I am. I have been fortunate to have taken a 19" wide 8, a 11 that made the registry, numerous 7, and 8s, an old 15 point with a crazy rack ( really only had one side and it wasn't broken with over 9" brows! ) and my largest, a main frame 10 that went just over 144.

I never have killed one with more than 8 points. I've passed one ten, have many on camera with up to a couple of twelve points, and have matched shed antlers from one ten and plenty of 5 point sides that might have been tens.

One of these days I'll learn how to kill one of the big ones :D
