I was eating a bow of oatmeal at 5:00 this morning and just couold not quit yawning. It was my intention to go out and kill #5. Instead, my good doggie and I went back to bed,

I just got up. I'm sure laziness cost me a deer this morning. But when you consider how poorly and little sleep I get, I think it is a good tradeoff. I can always go hunting. I can't always sleep.

Last time I fell asleep in the stand, my snoring must have imitated a grunt call, cause when i woke up a 4 year old 6 point was staring at me 20 feet up. Needless to say, he didn't stare for long after I put the 30.06 to work.

I do the same thing BW, more than once this season I have planned to get up and go hunting but slept in instead. Catching up on lost sleep keeps me more alert in the woods. I also sleep in the woods a little but not as much as I would if I didn't sleep in every now and then.

I can't say I never sleep in the woods but it is dang seldom and I try not to. Way too dangerous unless it is a shooting house.

I do have all season to hunt. Just some days, sleeping in is better. I suffer from acute insomnia. Three hours is a great night for me. When I can sleep, I try to take advantage of it. Afterall, I can go this afternoon.

But I probably won't.

Or on the ground.... also I may have dozed off in my comfy lawn chair in my homemade stand the other morning, but that is more secure than your regular tree stand. The possibility of me dozing off in a stand is a good reason to bring the safety harness...

when I was 12 my dad put me beside him in an old baker treestand. (I was just high enough that i used the stand as a seat and the ground as a footrest, but hey I thought i was doing something.) Anyway, i wake up to hear footsteps and then BOOM!!! Dad said the buck walked by me at forty yards and when he seen i wasn't going to shoot it he shot it. It was a real nice one too!!! I learned my lesson at an early age to TRY and not to go to sleep.

In the days before the hraness, if I started to doze, I got down. Now, I can adjust the harness to hold me fairly secure but I still don't like it.

I'll bet you could, bet someoen has. In 25-years at W.O., the only person we ever had fall from a stand was a guy fell out of a shooting house.

Bowriter was all set to go this afternoon and the naybor came over, needed a little help with an in-law. So I went and did that. Don't know if I helped but it is up to him.

I go to de woods maybe Sattidy.
