I have a tag for the 3rd straight year, but I have not been yet. I guess I will trade out the savage smokeless for the 30.06 or 30/30 to hunt on Friday and Saturday this year. I had planned to hunt with my brother, but he can't make it. I would like to shoot a big one, but a couple of days of watching young protected bucks and does in crunchy hardwoods is fun too.

Anyone else there?

If anyone without a tag wants to send me a pm of good spots....fire away! I don't use a climber, but i do have a new millennium tripod I need to try out so thick areas in travel corridors and pinch points will work. I do think a lot of bucks are killed off the WMA, so I may focus more effort towards interior.

I think there are a lot of copperheads and rattlesnakes still creeping too.

I have found it almost impossible to find pics of any deer taken from this WMA. I would think a 4 pt/15 inch rule could generate some nice deer over the last few years, but maybe not.

Any tips will be welcomed!

I think your tripod may come in handy in the select cut/clearcut ridge tops that have grown up and bush hogged around the edges. There's also some area that's just been logged this year.

How do you like the tripod?
They have logged a lot of it take the 3006 and reach out. I work with a guy that says he missed a monster down around the bottom east side of the lake. Teared up talking about it. Must have been a goodun

Tried to pm u I've hunted there alot from 99 til now! Prob 20 min from me

No pm received!

I have not used the tripod yet. It is good quality, but still could be lighter. I bought it and one of the hunt pods in anticipation for joining Ames club but gave up my spot when my boss was unexpectedly transferred in late August.

I know that many say the rut is later in Southern middle Tennessee… I know it's cranking up right now in Carroll County.

What's the temperature in Lewis or Maury County right now?

That is funny... by temperature I meant how the rut is progressing! :)

I don't know why pm is not working.

. This was the lake this summer see logging in background

Thank you… It's been a long busy day and I just got on the road from Jackson driving on 64 now. Those areas directly around the lake may be a safety zone? Not sure but I would definitely be interested in hunting select cut timber.

Hunted Friday.... I was behind and saw a great buck cross Cc road from private into the crop/ quail fields as soon as I hit wma line. I went back this morning and set up just perfectly if he was on a schedule, but he did not materialize.

I had a great time hunting Laurel Hill again! All of the smells and excitement were the same as my youth.

I killed my first deer at age 14 on land that bordered the wma on the road to VFW lake. Later, I killed several deer off Napier road on champion land just across from wma. I could tell some stories....my dad only sat with me once on a juvenile hunt.

Those downed trees are not the result of logging. A tornado did that. Then people were allowed to come in and salvage firewood and maybe some logs.

U are exactly right that twister tore up jack and the lake was drawn down to repair the dam! But they brought no telling how many loads of logs out after they twisted up! Bull moose you must have got my pm! Chief creek at Laurel hill road all that to the right leads to the trace, and both sides of c c road are good long story but I walked out a ridge that kinda runs parallel to the left of cc about 6 years ago, ( the year before they added the spread limit) running late so I went in at about 8am seen good rubs so I decided to stay til 1 or so then go to where I wanted to hunt the am, no deer so I packed up headed out walked up on a buck bedded about 40 yrds off the hill, zoom my Nikon all the way in to try and count points he never turned his head, longest stand off seeming forever. Well when he decided to leave he did with no shot.

They need to log some! If they would select cut some blocks and manage better, there would be more better fed deer with more cover to grow bigger antlers.
