What are yall's experiences with laser rangefinders? I want to get one. I just need to range to 500 yards or so. Of course looking for accuracy, durability, dependability, reliability and inexpensive!! lol I just want it to measure range probably for mostly after the fact shooting so I can say oh yeah I shot that deer at 42 yards or I shot that coyote at 272 yards or whatever. Thanks to any of you with field experience with particular models and suggestions. Plateau Hunter
 
i was going to buy a leupold rx-2 but after seeing that it was made in china with a 1 year warranty, i went with a nikon for 200 bucks less. they are all just about made in china with a one year warranty.

one thing about rangefinders if they say theyll measure to 600 yards, that doesnt mean they range a deer at that yardage. mine will range a deer at about 325, a tree about 400 and a house at 600.
 
I first got the Nikon but had problems with it and my eyeglasses. I got the Bushnell and have never had a problem nore has it ever been off range.
 
I have a Bushnell 800 and it is good to about 400, not much more than that for sure. Seams like to me that all of them are good for about half of what they are said to be.
 
we have the bushnell yardage pro. it has served us well for several years. used mostly for bowhunting but i have ranged objects at longer ranges. i would recommend it.

I have the same one, I mainly use it for bowhunting also,but it does seems to work good at longer ranges.I'd also reccomend it.
 
I need to get another myself. They've improved the ranges since I bought my Bushnell Compact 600. It seems that the ranges it works best at are the ranges I don't need to know anyway. Magnification isn't great on the one I have and it's hard to range a deer if it's much over 150-200 yards. I figure one of the new models that says 1500 yards might be able to range a single deer within reasonable shooting range.
 
Thanks for yall's comments and experiences. I had it narrowed down to the Bushnell 1000 or the Nikon 800 and ended up going with the Nikon. Wildcat I saw your comment about the eyeglasses and I hope that isn't an issue for me. Anyway I will see-hopefully! Plateau Hunter

Unless Nikon has changed their eye piece you will have a small field of view though it. The Bushnell eye piece flods back to allow the eyeglasses to move up closer for a better field of view.
 
Looks like Im a little late on this one, but Leica makes the best rangefinder in the mid range price. The 1200 will range in conditions a Bushnell cant even come close. Ive had em both and compared them side by side.
 
Have and older Bushnell 800 no problems with and I like it,but if I was going to get another one I would want a model with the Angle Compensation or True Range.
 
I've got a Bushnell 1500 Tournament Edition Pin Seeker rangefinder for golf that I am taking hunting this year.
