Curious as to how much difference in quality of hunting there is across the state line.. ? Is it archery only for everyone that doesn't draw a quota?

Twice the acreage on the ky side and only one adult quota instead of 2. Odds say there are more big deer in ky. If you sit at the check stations you'll see just as many nice deer on the Tennessee side as you will in kentucky. Personally I don't think there is a drop off from one side to the other. Mature deer are just as hard to kill in Kentucky as they are in Tennessee.

The deer have no clue where the line is and for the most part the soils are the same in that region regardless of state or county. Sadly the best soils are now under water though.

The key to LBL imo is to find those areas that can consistently grow old big deer. Parts of LBL are managed better than others. A lot is old growth type mature hardwoods, that much is not very diverse for growing and holding deer. If LBL was managed for wildlife I truly believe it would become a nationwide destination for hunters. Its good hunting now as is but its got TONS of potential.

I've heard it's good, and also heard that it's not so good..
Of course I'm skeptical of ppl just not wanting others to hunt there.. So aside from quota hunts is it open to everyone for archery only?

Yep, for the most part. Check the latest regs for specifics.

The bad of LBL archery is its so dang big and its big woods. Deer densities have dropped some but they pull some bruisers out every year. Gun quotas are short and crowding can be a issue, but you can use it to your advantage.

LBL is in the running for seed tick capital of the world.
Mike, you must not have heard the news.
LBL actually won the contest, and is officially the seed tick capital of the world.

Somewhat a mystery as to why ticks are so bad there. Hasn't always been that way, and, logically, would seem many other places should be worse for ticks than LBL.

To those of you who haven't visited LBL, if you go hiking or anything off-road there, spray your clothing with Permethrin the day before (February thru October).
Otherwise, you can expect to be bitten by ticks.

I have hunted LBL on and off since mid 90's. I will not be going back anytime soon. The places I hunt the deer numbers are way down. I dont have any touble putting the leg work in but there are better public land tracts in TN alot better than LBL is these days.
